Welcome to Maranatha Academy!

If you've taken my "virtual tour" before, you may notice that we have relocated!  While the master bedroom made an admirable classroom for a year, space just finally became too tight.  So this year, I have remodeled the garage!  Hopefully, this room will be our school's permanent home  (at least for a while!).

Converting the garage to a livable space wasn't an easy task.  First, some MAJOR decluttering was in order, followed by the rental of a 10x10' storage room for the remaining items.  It took WEEKS (and no, I don't want to talk about it -- *shudder*).  The cars got banished to the driveway.

One outside wall was not insulated at all, so I had to pull down the drywall, add insulation, nail up new drywall, and tape/bed/paint it.  I also had to add a thick layer of insulation in the attic above the garage, and insulate the garage door with rigid foam insulation.  It was a long, hot, dirty job!  (But if I can do this, anyone can.  It just takes a lot of patience and elbow grease.)

Next, I painted all the walls but one a nice, bright white.  Then I covered the last wall (shown in above photo to the left of the door to the house) with three sheets of 4'x8' white tileboard to make a full-wall markerboard.  (Right now, it displays the kids' body outlines and some of the anatomy parts we've studied this year in biology.  We're not quite as far behind as it looks -- we just have to color and tape up the digestive and respiratory systems.)
